DEVELOPMENT OF THE MUMMY'S MESSAGE

Even though my career was in the field of education, I have always been fascinated with the discipline of archeology, especially as it related to the study of ancient Egypt.  As a classroom teacher, however, I noticed very quickly that my students did not share the same feelings about something that happened 3000 years ago.  When I introduced the MUMMY’S MESSAGE into my classroom, my students became engaged in the learning experience. 

I have always believed that when a teacher utilizes a strategy that engages the student in an experience that promotes an emotional, personal interaction with the content or curriculum, the teacher has ignited inspiration in learning for that student-an achievement for which all teachers strive. 

In 1978, with the assistance of INTERACT, a California based company that markets educational simulation games,  the MUMMY’S MESSAGE was copyrighted, published, and marketed.  Since the games publication, this classroom simulation maintained the interest of students and teachers.   From 1978 to 1996, the MUMMY’S MESSAGE was one of the strongest “learning tools” marketed by INTERACT.  In 1996, I wanted to make my simulation available to a larger number of students and teachers.  Therefore, when INTERACT requested an extension of our contract, the decision to leave this very fine company appeared correct and timely.

Since 1996, when I removed MUMMY’S MESSAGE from the market, I have been encouraged by teachers who used my simulation game in their classroom, to bring it back.  Therefore, using the technology of the Internet, I am re-introducing an updated and even more exciting version of the original simulation for your use in your classroom.
